Chiang Rai and Chiangkhong were the latest Thai cities that we visited. We count them as the 21st stop of the “Reviravoltao ao Mundo”. We only visited those cities because we decided to go to Laos sailing by the Mekong River.

It is a 3-day trip. At first I thought we were going to have to stay three days in a small boat with no comfort. After some research I saw that it wasn’t the case.

The stop in Chiang Rai was interesting because there is the famous White Temple. As the name says, is a temple all white and very beautiful. It shines as there are mirrors stuck on all sides. It is not allowed to take photos inside this temple, but it is very modern and psychedelic. It's fun searching paintings in the wall of characters from comic books and super heroes. We found the Minions, Spiderman, Batman, Michael Jackson and others. Not all packages include stop at this temple.

We bought the trip in Chiang Mai and it included: going to Chiangkhong through Chiang Rai, crossing the border by land, in Khonekeo (Houeixai) in Laos we'd take the boat to Pakbeng (we stopped to sleep and the hotel was not included in the package) and then boat to Luang Prabang.

We compared the prices on some agencies the center of Chiang Mai and got a trip for 1,750 Thai baht per person (around 43 euros).

The trip was very nice and these three days we met a friendly travellers of several different nationalities. The landscapes are pretty. It was nice to start the trip in Laos from the river perspective.

This is a common way to travel in Asia and many backpackers do it, so we still find the same people in the boat in several cities in Laos and Vietnam.

Our journey through beautiful Thailand has ended. It was the second time we visited the country and we left with wanting more.

Despite the tourism already over explored in many cities, it is a beautiful country with people who smile all the time. In our second experience we found the food not that spicy as before, but we're a little more used to spices too.

How about the pictures in the Mekong River? These will be for the next post about Laos.

Kapunka ** Thailand!

** It means "thank you" in Thai, the word that we most hear there, and they say it with both hands together and bowing the head
