New Delhi was the thirteenth stop of “Reviravolta ao Mundo”. For the continuation of our trip to India we had the company of our French friend Pascal, who also attended the wedding. Together, we formed the "foreigners" trio of marriage that was an attraction in itself. We were asked to take many pictures with the locals. :)
Our arrival in Delhi was not the best of the trip. We arrived in Delhi 5 am. To make things worst we were in a hotel near the New Delhi railway station and this neighbourhood is not known by its beauty and cleanliness. The reputation was confirmed and I confess that must have been the dirtiest place I've been in my life. :(
Taking that little arriving problem a part, Delhi was a positive surprise, with organized and clean streets (something very difficult thing in India) and with many stories to be told.
What “Reviravolta ao Mundo” recommends:
- The tuc-tuc drivers never want to turn on the meter and they want the tourists to pay the highest price. To escape from them we walked a lot through the streets of Delhi and it is not recommended for tourists. We also used the bus, which was better than the metro for us.
- Enjoy the nice weather in the evening and drink something in the bars on the roof of buildings circulating the Central Park.
- The Akshardha Temple is the largest Hindu temple in the world and it is so big and so beautiful that was a bit disappointed when we saw the Taj Mahal. It is not much visited by "non-Hindu" tourists because it is half away, but worth the visit. There is a rigorous security before entering the temple. Cell phones and cameras are strictly prohibited. We had to leave it in the entrance as everyone. To control what we leave in the cloakroom, they take a picture of each person with the belongings leaving there.
